About the Site

The main reason this site exists is because I had a number of programs and written works that I humbly hope might be useful to the general public, and rather than using message boards, social networking sites, and the like, I thought it would be nice to have one domain for it. It’s nothing too sophisticated right now but I plan for it to grow as I educate myself about Web stuff; perhaps it will also grow along with others’ interest in my projects, should any arise.

To a lesser extent, it’s also a stable place for me to try my hand at blogging, which I’ve wanted to do for a while, and to educate myself about Web software and programming, which has never really been an area of focus for me as a programmer yet.

Why “Lambda Wolf”?

Because everything that made sense was taken.

That’s a half-joke. “Wolf” is because I like wolves and they’re sort of a personal emblem for me. “Lambda” is in reference to the lambda calculus and functional programming, which are associated (rather uniquely, these days) with my computer science education at Berkeley. It’s also sort of a minor pun on the classical idea of wolf packs having an “alpha wolf,” “beta wolf,” and so on. (Noting how far lambda is from alpha is in the Greek alphabet, my fiancée jokes that I “must be pretty low on the food chain.”) I think there’s also a good “lamb in wolf’s clothing” joke in there somewhere; I hope to discover it some day.

Bonus meanings include Half-Life, one of my favorite video games of all time. It is not related to WolframAlpha or the fraternity from Revenge of the Nerds.
